What Is It Like?

Wild Orchid by Cathy Ulrich

What is it like?
You ask.
This place where you live?

What is it like
where you come from?
I ask.

It is scary and sad.
Those who live there
are hurtful and mean.
Work is hard.
Life is hard.

It is like that here, too.

What is it like?
You ask.
This place where you live?

What is it like
where you come from?
I ask.

It is peaceful and calm.
Those who live there
are kind and serene
Work is easy.
Life is fun.

It is like that here, too.

Thanks, Elisa. I did it on my iPad using an app called Zen Brush and a real brush that works on the iPad by Nomad Brush. BTW, I’m sort of in you neck of the woods this week – Boston! We’re here for my Stepson’s wedding. It’s raining and we’re going to the MFA today. Hugs, Cathy

  2. Lovely poem, but a reminder: I live in New York City. We don’t do mellow here.

I enjoyed your artwork and poetic reminder of an essential truth, Cathy. Thank you for both.

  4. So lovely, both the poem and the orchid. And welcome to the east coast, Cathy! The northeast has a nicer vibe today with you here.

Thank you, Weebs! You’re very kind. I love the East Coast, used to live in Boston. It’s such a great city, as is New York. Being a foodie, one of the things I really enjoy about northeast cities is all the great restaurants. And the seafood. We get pretty good stuff in Colorado, but it’s never as good as the East Coast.
