The Strip hosts more energy
Than I can handle
Sleep comes slowly and ends quickly
Still, it was fun seeing it,
Sharing with sister Becky.
Bellagio’s fountains a wonder,
Singing gondoliers at Venetian
Guitar sunglasses a must.
Smoking I thought a thing of the past
But not in Vegas.
Casino’s Air freshener crudely masks
the clouds.
Grape at MGM
Coconut at Mandalay Bay
And masses of people
walking in large groups until
I had had enough.
Decided to play chicken…
They moved before
I dropped my shoulder to form an
Offensive line of one.
Time to go home.
I think it is designed to overwhelm the senses of comparatively non-sensitive people. So it would get to you particularly quickly. I imagine “strength” in shutting down my responses so I may exist in such a place, and- strength may be in opening up to it, allowing all my responses.
And the glasses are so cool!

Loved those glasses! It was very fun, but I think you’re absolutely right. It’s designed to get the attention of those who are fairly non-sensitive (or maybe insensitive?) Three days was plenty for me. And I did allow myself to experience it fully without shutting down. No need to do it again anytime soon, though.

What a terrific poem Cathy! I went once, in 1986, and while it was amazing for a couple of days, I too feel no need to return because I got my fill :). I especially enjoy your description of the ‘masked’ scents at different casinos (cough-cough). So glad you experienced it fully! And where else could a person find such fun guitar-glasses?! Cheers, Gina

Thanks, Gina. It was really fun and amazing. The first time I went was 1984 and it is very different now. Much bigger, lots more hotels and there are really nice restaurants everywhere now, too. Not just the buffets (I detest buffets.) We were really only on The Strip for two days. We rented a car and went to the Red Rock Canyon National Reserve for a day and that was really beautiful. And we laughed a lot! I think it’s a great place to go with a sister who has a similar sense of humor! Hugs, Cathy

Vegas is intense; and not in a soul-fulfilling kind of way. But it’s good for a laugh, and I am glad you could view it through guitar coloured glasses!

Yes, the guitar colored glasses certainly helped. We really did have a good time but don’t feel the need to go back anytime soon. Thanks, RG!

I can see how Vegas would be WAY too much energy for you, Cathy! I really love Vegas, as crazy and over-the-top as it is. It energizes me, but in a good way, strangely enough.

Weebs,
I think Vegas has something for everyone. I actually had a very good time, but I can understand how some people just don’t sleep while they’re there. The sensory stimulation is huge. We rented a car one of the three days we were there and went up to Red Rock Canyon. I got some amazing photos that I’ll be posting soon. Maybe on the cathyulrich.com blog. And we laughed a lot. That’s Becky in the guitar glasses. I just couldn’t resist putting that picture up. And I did feel a little guilty doing that while you guys were getting hammered by that bitch Sandy. I really was thinking about you, even in the energy of LV.
