Weekly Photo Challenge – Lunchtime

My favorite meal is dinner. I like to spend time with Peter, relaxing, enjoying a glass of wine and preparing a savory repast. Lunchtime for me is usually a fruit smoothie at my desk while returning phone calls or writing therapy notes. But on weekends, my favorite place for lunch looks something like this…

Lunch at Red Mountain

Lunch at Red Mountain

Peter and I love to hike on weekends. We stop at our favorite bagel establishment – Gibbs – and pick-up bagel sandwiches. My favorite is chicken salad on a jalapeño/cheddar bagel with a bag of kettle chips and a half-sour pickle. We lovingly pack these wax-paper wrapped delicacies in our Camelbaks and carry them several miles (along with my camera) until we reach an overlook such as this, somewhere around lunchtime. We look for a rock on which to perch, and quietly munch. Ahhh, the joys of living in Colorado.

The photo challenges for the month of March embrace phoneography, and I must confess I did not take this photo with my iPhone. Instead, I had my Olympus XZ-1 with me for this shot. Please forgive me.

  2. Beautiful. I have not done proper hill-walking for yonks, but went through the Lairig Ghru and Lairig an-Luie- Lairig means pass, these are in the Cairngorms. They make lunch particularly welcome.

  3. What a gorgeous view! The bagel sandwiches and hikes reminds me of my parents relationship. We have a small bagel shop nearby and when they were “courting”, bagels and hikes were their favorite. Thanks for the smile about a good memory 🙂

Thank you! I’m glad it brought a smile your way. We’re so fortunate to live in such a wonderful place. The park where this photo was taken is only about an hour from our home (and the bagel shop is on the way! 🙂 )

  5. Even scarfing a liverwurst sandwich on stale foam bread would taste a thousand times better while inhaling a view like that Cathy.

This place makes every thing taste better! And I’m not crazy about liverwurst, but I do like chopped liver! I miss it from my days in Boston! Thanks, as always for the comment, V.

Hi Cathy, thank you for the beautiful picture and all the other pictures you shared. I really woild love to go hiking there some day, who knows, it could be with you. Wouldn’t that be fun? We may be visiting Santa Fe New Mexico in May. How far is that from you? We love to travel and have been blessed with an inheritance that we can use for that purpose. Hope to meet you in person some day.. Joy, Candy

Hi Candy. There are so many wonderful places to hike in this part of the world! Santa Fe is about seven hours by car from us and we have been there many times. I did my Rolfing Advanced Certification there – for six weeks. I loved it! Yes, it would be lovely to meet you in person and go for a hike! Thank you!
      Hugs,
      Cathy

They say that red enhances the appetite, and I can see how it would in this case. Your bagel sandwiches and your hike both sound delicious.

Thank you, Athena! This park is about an hour’s drive north of our home and when we go hiking there, we set aside the day to do it but only after picking up lunch to carry to a beautiful spot such as this. Yes, we do live in an amazing place! The next time you’re in the States, I’d suggest a stop in Colorado. It truly is spectacular!
