Thank you, Sharon. Have you read Leonard Jacobson? I have three of his books in my library and hadn’t looked at them in awhile. I was looking for a quote for this shot and just opened “Words from Silence.” There it was!

  9. Not only did you shoot this great picture, Cathy, but you actually grew that orchid yourself! Wow. That image really was the perfect pairing with that quote. Lovely.

About the only thing I can grow is mold in my refrigerator.

I’m pretty good at growing mold in my refrigerator, too, V…Recombinant DNA projects as I call them. I do grow orchids, but I did not grow this particular one. When it stops blooming, it will find a new home in my Orchidarium and it will then bloom about once a year. I like to pick up new ones from time-to-time, enjoy the bloom spikes, photograph them and then place them in the tank where they’re allowed to grow more in a wild state. I should post a photo of the Orchidarium sometime. I have several blooming in there now.

Anyway, thanks for the kind comment.

Awww shucks, Jen. Thank you. I love photography and gifted myself an amazing camera for Christmas. I do have some formal education in photography. Before studying Physical Therapy, I got a degree in Industrial Design from Georgia Tech and did take photography in those days. In some ways, I think it did help. I spent many hours in the darkroom. It has taken me a long time to “grok” digital, but I think I’m finally getting there.

How’s everything going with you? And the new job?

      • This is so funny; I just reconnected with one of my cousins over the weekend and her daughter is taking industrial design and has a reasonably successful photography business. I should send her your blog as a glimpse into her possible future! I suspect she would be quite pleased.
I agree traditional photography would help..the instant results on digital are nice, but there’s something about manipulating a manual camera that makes it stick in your brain a little better. Maybe because mistakes actually cost time and effort? Ha!
Things are going.. it’s been a lot of training these first few weeks, but I am pretty excited about all the work I’ll get to be doing and everyone at my company seems pretty passionate and confident. The kids are doing quite well, the only hitch is that our daycare director is a bit .. tightly wound. But everything is going gangbusters here. If only I could get over my night owl ways, I would be set!

Yeah, sleep does help…But it can take a little time to get back to a routine and make yourself go to bed. Maybe Melatonin?
