Weekly Photo Challenge – Color

Boots for Sale

Boots for Sale

So many boots,
Cowboy boots
to be specific.

Some new.
some used.
A culture of itself.

I have my Justins (black)
and my Tony Lamas (brown)
and I’ve worn them
for many years.

Some would say
I’m a poser.
But I live in the West.
It’s my home
And I’ll wear them if I want to…

I decided to combine the Weekly Photo Challenge and a poem for today’s post. I think most of you who follow this blog have figured out that I’m doing the National Poetry Month Poem a Day. Thank you for your patience as I think you’ve become accustomed to my two to three times per week posts. I promise I’ll get back to my regularly scheduled programming on May Day! In the meantime, thank you for stopping by and for your wonderful comments and occasional poetic responses. I love you all!

Cathy

  1. This city slicker is a long-time motorcycle boot wearer, but now that spring has finally hit the Big Apple, I’m back to wearing my Jack Purcell badminton shoes. Nice photo with perfectly matching verse. Do cowboy boots just look naturally “pre-owned” to sound like a swanky car commercial selling used jalopies?

Thanks, V. I think cowboy boots are supposed look “pre-owned.” I also think that’s why there’s no shame in buying them in said condition. Although one doesn’t seem to gain much advantage in buying them used – the used ones are almost as expensive as new. They do create an interesting canvas for wearable art. Alas, mine, are just plain ones, although the leather on both pairs is very nice.

Love the photo, Cathy. I looked over all the boots and chose the pair I wanted. I don’t actually own cowboy boots, but you’re right about them being wearable art.
Also – I am thoroughly enjoying reading your daily poetry, so don’t apologize!

Thank you, Mary! Which pair did you choose? I have my eye on several – I like red ones on the middle row and turquoise and black ones on the top left!

Haha! We must have the same taste, Cathy, because those are the ones I like. I could totally get behind owning the red pair, though. There is also a pair on the bottom that caught my eye – they look like they might be suede, and they have turquoise flowers on them.

Oooh, I like those too! They had a brand in a separate display called “Old Gringo” and I loved all of those too. Very fun.

Do you ever wear them, Susie? I kind of take my cowboy boot wearing in spells. Every now and then, there’s a skirt or dress ensemble where those boots are the perfect footwear for the occasion!

See? I would never stop to think what a great picture shelves full of boots would make, and yet it makes for a wonderful photo. And the way you weave words from it is lovely.

Thank you, Carrie! This shot was taken at a famous Western Wear store in Steamboat Springs during our recent trip. It was fun capturing the colors and textures and seemed like the perfect shot for the challenge for this week!

  6. Love it! I tried to picture myself wearing cowboy boots and had to laugh right out loud. But I can certainly see you doing it! The kind that are made for walking, of course. And skiing. And spelunking. Do they make scuba boots? 😛

This Western Store is quite famous in the region – F.M. Light, and they do have a great selection of boots. We were in Steamboat in mid-February for five days of skiing. It’s about a three and a half hour drive from our home over the mountains. And I always have to pay a visit to F.M. Light, even if I don’t buy anything!

Yes, they can be quite expensive. And you can pay just about any amount for cowboy boots. Some of my favorites are $650, so I just admire them from a distance…

I have some very expensive boots and they have lasted forever but for some odd reason I can’t mentally justify spending that on Cowboy boots but I don”t really know why as the would no doubt last me for the rest of my life!
