Flute Dreams

Flute Dream

Flute Dream

I dreamt of you last night
Your harmonic tones
filling my ears with cool vibrations

Jazz riffs in my mind
expressed through breath,
fingers moving to the Latin rhythm.
Manha de Carnival,
Autumn Leaves and
Blue Monk.

Bach, Handel, and Schumann
all floating through time and space
from notes on the page
to the sound of your silver.

Thank you, Kathryn. It’s a High Dynamic Range shot. Have you tried that yet?

It’s a technique where you take several exposures of the same shot and merge them using special software. I use Photomatix. It’s very cool – works especially well with landscapes and interior shots, but you can do macros like this one which pull out the highlights of the silver on the flute. If you search on HDRI on Google, you’ll start to get an idea about what’s possible. While the landscape shot I posted yesterday is not manipulated through HDRI, it has a similar feel to some of those. There are several good books out there on HDRI – my favorite is “The HDRI Handbook 2.0” by Christian Bloch.

I just finished reading about it but it seems I need a DSLR camera …..I am working on it : )

I’m not sure it’s absolutely necessary to have a DSLR. I do have one (a Nikon D600) but my bridge camera, which is an Olympus XZ-1 can also be used (it’s the camera I use for my underwater photography). You just need the ability to shoot in aperture mode and be able to adjust shutter speed to get a range of exposures. Also, Photomatix has a 30-day free trial.

Hi Cathy, great photo. I love jazz and particularly the sound of the clarinet, it transports me somewhere else to a timeless place. it is an instrument when played well that can speak to your soul.
