I think it’s kind of a twist on the “Golden Rule,” Shimon. “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” But in this case, the thrust of the quote is that we often are much harder on ourselves than we are on others. And if we can be gentle with ourselves, the way we might be with a loved one, we will be happier. Thank you for asking!
Cathy
Thank you for the explanation, Cathy. I realized that this was based on the golden rule. But feelings are not actions. They are part of our most intimate awareness. Since most of us know ourselves intimately, and others just casually, it seems to me that our feelings towards ourselves might be more complicated than our understanding of what others feel about themselves. Perhaps this is advice to psychologists…
Good point, Shimon. It is about feelings and not actions – but in my experience with friends and clients, much pain arises from severe self-judgment and I think those who habitually engage in such feelings for themselves would not want those they love to do the same. And yes, probably a good quote for psychologists.
You two crack me up! It’s funny, Carrie and V, I woke up in the middle of the night thinking I should take that photo off as it could be somewhat suggestive, but I decided I liked it anyway. What’s a little nude Calla Lilly curvy-ness going to hurt anyone anyway?
Ooooh, a new favorite! This is loveleeee. Nice work! I’ve always loved the shape of Callas, but this is one of my favorite colors. Gorgeous! Just spent a weekend in the desert, where so much was in bloom. YOU would have loved it!
Thanks, Dawn! I love the cactus blooms in Arizona! Such beautiful and delicate flowers on plants that wouldn’t seem capable of anything but spikes! Have you seen the orange Callas before? I had never seen any until I found this one at Whole Foods on Saturday. They had a huge display of pink ones and lavender ones and red ones and yellow ones…I had a hard time picking my favorite – so I got two… 🙂 Sounds like you had a fun girls weekend!
Mmm, so pretty. That’s my favorite color. It’s about all I ever want to wear. Great composition, too. 🙂

Love the image and the quote, but am I the only one who thinks that flower looks a little…um…feminine? (If you get my drift…)

I sure get your drift, Carrie. It has a George O’Keefe feel to it for me. Now Cathy will banish me from commenting on her site.
