This week’s challenge asks us to share a photo that emphasizes the use of focus and depth of field. It brought to mind a shot I took last winter on the prairie looking back towards the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. I chose an aperture that allowed me to focus on the foothills, while blurring the tall winter grasses in foreground. This shot is somewhat unusual in that most photographers choose to blur the background instead.
I’m also posting this shot to meet Bastet’s Pixelventures challenge for the week – “Through.” We’re asked to shoot through “a wire mesh fence, sunglasses, screendoor anything…just shoot through something,” and this shot was taken through the grasses. See what I did there? Two challenges, one shot!

This shot has a cinematic quality to me Cathy: racking focus from the present to reflect with clarity about the past. There’s a story to be told. “I remember it well over those mountains. I forgot to unplug the iron and my life has been downhill ever since.”

Every picture tells a story, don’t it? I guess it does have a cinematic quality. I wasn’t even sure I liked the shot. But with your story, how could I not, V?

Nicely done! Love the idea and the resultant photo. I need to get ahold of my older photos and get them into the weekly photo challenges. Having an injured foot, I haven’t been able to get upstairs, where my “work” computer and back-up drive full of photos, is. I’ll have to have my trusty husband bring my external hard drive downstairs. Very much enjoying your photography! And, I’m thinking about taking a Re Hu Tek class online. It’s similar to Reiki, but a different energy.

Thank you! I hope your foot is better soon. I’m not familiar with Re Hu Tek. Are you attuned to Reiki already?

Yes, I have been attuned to Reiki at the second level. Haven’t gone for master yet. I’ve also had an amazing workshop in Matrix Energetics (they refer to it as a consciousness technology). I love it. And I am lucky enough to have a spiritual healing and reading center locally, where I’ve taken several classes and have had healing sessions. In fact, I’m taking a six week class of Clairvoyance 201, in about 3 weeks.

I love the blurring of the foreground to make the background come foreward

Thank you, LouAnn. It was an experiment, and I wasn’t quite sure what to do with it, until these two challenges came up!

I always like to do this – put something between me and the subject – I don’t know why, but it’s appealing somehow. Clever, getting two for one!

Thanks, Lynn! We have these wonderful tall grasses on the prairie and they seemed the fitting curtain. Grass sheers!

A good pic fitting the theme. The grasses are just enough in focus and just enough blurred.
