It IS like a little town, Kathryn! I had this plant for about two years before it bloomed and then this! What a surprise!

What an amazing photo. I have most likely asked you this before. What camera would you suggest I buy. DSLR, small hands here, small camera base with affordable lens? I really want to improve.

    “epiphyllum’s throat”—Sounds like a good title for a horror movie. 🙂

    Lovely pic!

    Perfect for Halloween fright
    Blood red and white hands

Saw this and immediately thought of alien hands, and scary October images, even though it’s actually quite beautiful. 😉

Thanks, Susan. They are really intruguing! It’s huge flower on this gangly large cactus. And since it has started blooming, I get one of these blossoms about every three or four months. It’s a very interesting house plant – one that I picked up at an end of the season sale at a local nursery. Imagine my surprise when it bloomed the first time!

  11. That big ominous mitt coming out of the center brings to mind the people-eating plant in Little Shop of Horrors, Cathy. It is a perfect Halloween-themed flower.

Note: I saw that I lost your subscription yet again, so I’ve re-subscribed. I don’t get what’s going on here and why this keeps happening to me with your site.

Yeah, it really does look like a mitt from this angle, V. If it were only orange. On an other note, I did get the notification of your subscription, this time, so hopefully the problem is fixed! Thanks again, for your perseverance!

This is absolutely spectacular! I adore your amazing close-up’s of the incredible flowers you shoot. Well this one is rather exotic, but you can even make sunflowers look awe-inspiring! Helping us see that the common is not quite so common up close. Breath taking. Thanks for sharing! Hugs, Gina

What a beautiful image… and a reminder too of the intricacy of nature. How there is more around us than we’ll ever discover or understand…
