Beautiful shot, Cathy. It feels so spacious.

Thanks, Amy! It was quite spacious! And where that young man is sitting, there’s about a 300 ft drop to the bottom of that canyon!

Thanks, Dawn! With a challenge like “layers” how could I not post a shot of the sandstone in Moab? 🙂

Exactly! Your flower shots have some serious layers too though… You could’ve gone a lot of different directions. I just knew it would be good. 😉

We used to live in Western Colorado near the Colorado National Monument—love the layers of sandstone.

I love the Colorado National Monument, Allan. And as I’m sure you know, from the Front Range, one drives right by it to get to the Moab area. The sandstone in the west is just so beautiful. Thanks so much for the comment!

That’s stunning depth of focus. Who’s the person in the shot? Anyone you know?

Thanks, V. I love the depth of focus of this one, too. The backstory on this shot is that it was taken prior to a concert as part of the Moab Music Festival. This location was chosen for a “musical hike” for its beauty and amazing acoustics. The musicians were set-up about 75 feet to the right of this overlook (two violins and a cello) and the young man in the shot is a Navajo Flutist who played several concerts during the festival, but was attending this one. I don’t know his name, but we talked with him for a while during the two-mile hike back out from the concert site.

A marvelous picture. The person sitting there gives us the feeling of ourselves contemplating the reality of that scene, together with the beauty of nature. I love it.

Yes they are, Frank. There are even places in Moab where one can see dinosaur bones in the layers! Fascinating!
