Movie Monday – A Vlog

Okay, so I succumbed to the GoPro craze. I know, it’s silly. But I do love cameras, and I am going diving soon, and I do ski, and I do ride my bike, and I do hike, and I live in a beautiful place. So here it is, my first Vlog – a video of my short bike ride on the Spring Creek Trail here in Fort Collins. While most of the trail looks as if it is out in the wilderness, it actually runs right through the center of town. These are shots from my ride on a short stretch of the southwest end of the trail yesterday. Enjoy!

Were you obeying the speed limit? 😉 I am a tad jealous…I want so bad to go for a bike ride. It looks like a very nice trail, the landscape reminds me of some of the trails around here – very natural. Oh, and nice job on the vlog.

Thank you, Mary. I was definitely below the speed limit. I think it’s 20! I was on my mountain bike on which I’m a lot slower than my road bike, but it’s a better workout on the windey bike trail! Hope you’re able to get outside soon!

My next bike ride probably won’t be until April. It’s been cold here – in the 20’s & 30’s, snow starting tonight, high in the teens by the weekend. No bike riding for awhile.

😦 While everyone thinks it’s cold in Colorado, we get many days like yesterday – in the 50s and sunny. Then we’ll get very cold days and I think we’ve got snow coming in on Thursday.

That’s gorgeous, Cathy. What a great idea for a blog post. I love the variety of travelers you pass–those on bikes, on foot, on horses, and even skateboards. Thanks for sharing a bit more of your world with us!

Thank you, Carrie. One thing I love about Coloradoans is that we use our outdoor infrastructure. As I got on my bike yesterday, I thought to myself: “I hope I see someone on horseback today.” And I did – even a white steed! I’m glad you enjoyed the video and thank you for taking to time to take a look!

  9. Oh, how fun! I remember that tunnel, Cathy. It looks so pretty, I want to go for a ride now, too.

Thanks, Amy! I love the tunnels on this path. I thought as I viewed the video that the light at the end was intense. I decided to end the clip before I came out of the other end, but it’s a beautiful tunnel with these interesting bas relief sculptures on the walls. Do you have paths in California nearby?

  12. How fun! Is that one of those cameras you wear on your head, or how does that work exactly?

Yes, you can wear this little camera on your head – they’re tiny! But yesterday, I mounted it on the handlebars of my mountain bike. Being an Industrial Designer (in a former life – no early in this life) this thing is designed amazingly well. GoPro has designed a huge variety of mountings for this thing – ones you can stick to your surfboard, ones you can wear on your chest, ones you can mount on your ski or bike helmet, ones you can fix to a camera tripod, or hiking pole, or ski pole or bike seat post or even scuba mask. As I started playing with it and reading about it, I likened it to Tinker Toys for adults. It’s really fun!

I had no idea you did all these things! I do not ski nor dive but I will hike, bike, climb, ride and explore all day long! Perfect Cathy ! Bravo!

Thank you, Kathryn. GoPro provides free video editing software that’s awesome. I put this little piece together in about an hour using one of their templates – it even included the music. You can also create your own template, but I wanted to learn by using their very easy tools. I’m definitely hooked!

LOVE>LOVE>LOVE! I want one too. I watched a whole show on it and I am ready . PS: Please fix my misspell?

    • Cathy Ulrich says:

Misspells all fixed! Are you referring to the 60 Minutes show last week? I saw that one too, although I had been thinking about getting one of these for awhile. The upcoming dive trip was the incentive that put me over the edge. I got the Hero 3+, Black Edition and I love it!

  15. First off, great video. Loved the editing, the music, all of it. Secondly, I am so very envious of your sunny, dry weather and that amazing bike/ walking path that you can take advantage of. We do have a path that’s about a 6 mile drive from the house. But it’s not paved, and with all of our wet weather, it’s pretty mucky this time of year (we’re into rain, rain and more rain until about March or April). Thanks for bringing us along on your ride. Really enjoyed it!

I don’t know if you’ve ever heard of Matrix Energetics, but this coming weekend, I’m over the moon excited to be going to a 2 workshop, 3 day weekend. It’s not referred to as a healing modality, but rather a consciousness technology. I absolutely love it and the amazing possibilities it taps into.

      HI Susan,
Glad you enjoyed the video. Yes, we do get sunny dry weather – in fact Colorado boasts 300 days of it a year! And these paved paths are all over the place here, miles of them. I can ride from one end of town to the other over about 15 mile of paved paths or more and right through downtown. It’s really amazing. I’ll probably add a few more.

I have heard of Matrix Energetics. I think energy work is very similar from system to system, but the frequencies and techniques can be somewhat different. Hope you have a great time in the workshops. Let me know how it goes!

Whee, that was fun, Cathy. I’ve been wanting one of these gizmos for awhile. I loved this — thanks for taking us along. I wish they made tiny ones that I could put on Baxter and Sophie (pups) to get a glimpse of life through their perspective.

These are really tiny, Brigitte, but probably still a bit too heavy for little dogs. I think they’re a little too big for my cats, but the thought did occur to me. There is an amazing video on the GoPro site where they put one on a lion in the wild on the Serenghetti. Really worth the watch. If you go this page and click the video on the far right – “Lions – The New Endangered Species,” you can watch it. Glad you enjoyed my first GoPro attempt!

I watched a Sunday morning special about the inventor of this camera — a very young and now very wealthy young man. It was fascinating! Hope your Thanksgiving was wonderful and still waiting on that Pumpkin Tiramasu (I’m sure the sp is wrong but you know what I mean). 🙂

This was a joy to watch, and the music choice was perfect. My son, whose interest and career path is in video/film making, has a GoPro and loves it. I’m amazed at what they are capable of doing.

Looking forward to more Movie Mondays!!

Thank you, Mary! This was my first attempt with the GoPro and it is amazing! I also love the GoPro Studio software. I have used iMovie for editing in the past, but I think I’m going to love the GoPro software. It’s much easier and much more intuitive. I used one of their templates and it only took me about an hour to get a finished product that I liked. And that included the learning curve! Thanks so much for taking the time to watch and yes, there will be more Movie Mondays. Stay tuned…

Cathy, this was wonderful! Great editing…I especially liked that little hesitation where the paths divided (near the end). What a wonderful riding trail you have! I felt like I was right there with you.
