Weekly Photo Challenge – Abandoned

Abandoned San Geronimo Church

Abandoned San Geronimo Church

This shot was taken in the Taos Pueblo in Taos, New Mexico. The abandonded ruins of the San Geronimo church is the site of the cemetery for the Pueblo people – a reminder of violent times when the church was bombarded by the U.S. Cavalry in retaliation for the murder of the then New Mexico Governor in the Pueblo Uprising. Many elders, women and children were killed as they sought shelter in the church. The Pueblo people chose to leave the remains of the church intact and bury their dead in the hallowed ground in and around the ruins.

It’s cloudy and cold here today and I’m yearning for Spring (and Spring skiing!). I thought I’d share a shot I took at the Denver Botanic Gardens and painted in Waterlogue on my iPhone! Hope your Sunday is sunny and bright regardless of what the weather is doing!

Weekly Photo Challenge – Treasure

Hawksbill's Portrait

Hawksbill’s Portrait

I have so many people and things that I treasure in my life, that it’s hard to choose, but I thought I would share one of Mother Earth’s treasures. The critically endangered Hawksbill turtle is a representative of ancient times. A gentle and charming creature, this treasure deserves to continue its existence on this planet as a reminder of our connection life and to the seas.

Weekly Photo Challenge – Selfie

In order to get you in the mood for the Winter Olympics, I’m sharing my selfie from Breckenridge, Colorado where I spent the day skiing Colorado Champagne Powder. And it was a powder day – about a foot of it! I am smiling under the ski mask, but this is how I spend a cold, snowy day on the slopes bundled up and cruising!
