What a great find! I probably would’ve walked right past the owl, so well disguised in the tree she is.

Most people do, Carrie. She sits in a tree right by the bike path in town and even when she’s pointed out, people have a hard time seeing her. She’s about sixty feet up and very well disguised.

  3. That owl is so adorable nestled in her nest! But in a less attractive form and wearing black horn rimmed glasses, I could also be like her and nestled in my own nest, Cathy. It’s that small window of time over here, that happens briefly in spring and fall, when the heat is off in my building and my sanctum sanctorum is soooooooooooo cold! In a week or two I anticipate I’ll be dying from heat prostration until September so I will soon want to escape the confines of my own a/c-less nest.

  4. Wow! Good eye to catch that! So many people would have gone right by not knowing it was there.

Thanks, Jan. I happened to be running on the path a couple of months ago when some people were looking up at her. The only way I would have known she was there. She’s gotten to be quite the popular little girl in town as it seems that most of the time when I run by, there is someone there with either binoculars or a camera. But she doesn’t seem to mind. She’s there every time I go by.

Owls are one of my absolute favorites! I’ve only seen a couple in the wild. They’re beautiful.

Thanks, Aileen. Apparently there was an article in the Coloradoan about her and a bunch of people showed up! So I don’t know if she’ll be there next time! But she’s very cool!

Amazing! How did you ever spy such a camouflaged little owl?

I have to admit, I was running on the bike path one day and passed all these people looking up into the tree. You know, one of those situations where you stop and look up too to see what they’re looking at? So I didn’t find her on my own. What’s interesting though is that she is still there every time I go by – she’s been in that hollow in the tree for at least three months. Of course, I’m sure she goes out at night to hunt…
