I love to travel by train, but have done little of it in the U.S. In India, it is a grand adventure! This photo really captures the spirit of trains, and makes me want to take off!
I love to travel by train, too. Europe is such a great place to do that. Trains are in my blood as my father and grandfather were “railroad men.” Both worked on the railroads in Georgia for their entire lives.
My cousin (younger cousin) is a “railroad man,” and I love that about him. This summer, my Little Man and I will travel by train through Norway… can’t wait!
Cathy, I love this shot for a variety of reasons. We took the passenger trains when I was growing up and BNSF is the Metra train from our city in Chicago. 🙂
Thanks, Janet. Trains are so cool! My father and grandfather were both railroad men, working on the railroads in Atlanta for their careers. Both worked in the repair department. Called “car-men,” they repaired railroad cars and my dad was a master at cleaning up train wrecks and re-railing cars. I grew up hearing many, many railroad stories. So I loved taking shots of this train waiting in a siding just west of Colorado Springs.
I love trains, too, Amy. My dad was a railroad man and he worked his entire career in the Atlanta area at the Louisville and Nashville railroad yard as a car-man repairing damaged railroad cars. I heard so many stories throughout my childhood about that culture and life, so it’s always fun to capture a great shot of a train!

Burlington Northern Santa Fe! My son is a train enthusiast and is always on the lookout. We see quite a few BNSF trains in our area here in the Pacific northwest. Great photo that defines the theme of the week.

You nailed that challenge, Cathy. What’s it hauling? “Clean” coal?

I think this train was pulling empty coal cars and was headed north to Wyoming to pick up more coal, V. But certainly not clean coal.

Cool shot! I like the angles, primary subject, foreground, background, and ‘textures’.
