Weekly Photo Challenge – Split-Second Story

The Story of the Rocks

The Story of the Rocks

This week’s challenge can be intepreted many ways, but I was intrigued by one of the lines in the prompt: “Put your National Geographic hat on and tell a story by documenting a moment in time through a single image.” Here’s my offering.

Last fall, my sister visited and she, Peter and I spent a full week in Moab, Utah. On Labor Day, we did a guided hike through the Fiery Furnace in Arches National Park – a fascinating area of rock spires and pinnacles that is so elaborate, the park service doesn’t allow people into its depths without a guide. We spent the morning with park ranger Allison who showed us how to jump over rock crevices and climb through narrow cracks and along the way, she stopped to tell stories of the geological history and the wildlife that thrives in this desert environment. This shot was taken during one of those stops and Allison shared a story of this beautiful place.

You keep adding places to my bucket list, Cathy! How can I resist a place called The Fiery Furnace? How can anyone? Beautiful!

  2. I checked the Fiery Furnace link Cathy. When I read “Exploring the Fiery Furnace requires stamina, agility and a good sense of direction,” I thought to myself, “Well, that counts me out.” But if I were in Ranger Allison’s audience, you can bet your bippy I’d be paying close attention to what she has to say, too. It’s not like one can hop on a subway or train to get out of there. Glad that the three of you survived this exploration and you once again had a perfect picture for the Photo Challenge prompt.

Thank you so much, V. I didn’t think it was all that strenuous, and I’m sure you could have done the hike, but it was very interesting and fun. And who know? In your new, svelt and fit frame, you would have probably been at the front of the group!
