Weekly Photo Challenge – Contrasts

Vedauwoo Explosion

Vedauwoo Explosion

Here’s my offering: a shot in Vedauwoo Campground. A National Forest area in southern Wyoming, Vedauwoo hosts huge pink granite outcroppings surrounded by a literal plethora of wildflowers. I loved the contrast between this gathering of vibrant wildflowers (I’m thinking they’re a kind of lupine?) and the towering granite (somewhere around 500 feet tall, I would guess). This area is a spectacular place for a hike!

Thanks, Kathryn. This spot is about an hour’s drive away from my home! Just amazing. We saw a mama moose with two calves in the picnic area but were eating lunch when they came by so I didn’t get any shots of them. Still, it was a very fun day.

Thanks, Janet! We’re heading up to the Black Hills for a road trip later this week and we’re looking forward to a couple of nights in Sundance, WY. I want to take some photos of Devil’s Tower. Should be a nice trip!

Ver pretty, Cathy! Great contrasting colors and textures. The hard against the softness of the flowers.

  6. You have such a great eye, Cathy! You nailed contrast. The color of the flowers in the foreground pops so much that they almost look fake against the pine (?) trees and granite in the background. Yet another photo challenge aced by you.

Cathy, this looks like a wonderful place to hike and breathe in all that beautiful, pure nature. I love the juxtaposition of the hard gray, forceful rock and the flowers that look soft, yielding and pastel. Lovely little yin yang influences that nature so often gives if we just take the time to look. YOU always do and it’s just lovely.

      Hey Brigitte!
Thanks so much! This place in Wyoming is soooo full of these wonderful contrasts. As I learned to look for interesting things to capture with my camera, I’d say I’ve gotten much better at seeing! 🙂 A gift that I wasn’t sure I was expecting! Hope your summer is going well, my friend.

The photographic contrast is one thing … but the contrast between the sky, rocks, and plants is also a story. Well done!

Yes, Lynn. I loved the contrast. This place was filled to the brim with wildflowers. I don’t I had ever seen that many in one place before. You would love it!
