Weekly Photo Challenge – Signs

Welcome to St. Charles

Welcome to St. Charles

On our road trip from Atlanta to Fort Collins in August, my sister Becky and I stopped in St. Louis for some sightseeing. Here’s a shot of a lamp post with sign in historic St. Charles, Missouri – site of the state’s first capital. We had a great day exploring shops and galleries on Main Street – a brick covered street lined with late-eighteenth and early-nineteenth century buildings right alongside the Missouri river. St. Charles is also the site where Lewis and Clark left on their grand expedition.

Love the perspective and the brilliant colors in this photo!
I’d love to walk this street. Didn’t know that this was the starting point for Lewis and Clark.

The more I examine that picture, the more I notice that there is a lot going on in it. Cheers to that!!!

BTW … I know you enjoy a good party, just letting you know I’m hosting a special event at my place this weekend … so hope you can attend.

  8. Nice depth of field, Cathy, and I agree with Mary, brilliant colors, and with Frank, that there is a lot going on in that photo. The more I look at it the more I see. Maybe if I stare at it long enough, I’ll discover the meaning of life.

Thanks, Amy. I liked the sign, too. I don’t usually photograph signs, so when I saw the prompt, I decided to share this shot (of maybe three shots of signs that I have in my files!). But I did like the colors. Came out pretty well in HDR.

Brilliant colors. I love how sharply defined the orange building looks against the blue sky.

The sign is beautiful, and your composition is outstanding. Even a little cloud in the perfect position – great shot!

Thanks, Leon! Don’t you love it when the clouds cooperate? As I’ve gotten more serious about photography, I find myself looking at clouds a lot! Oh, and you would have loved my adventure today with my sister. We went to the Loveland, Colorado Art Museum that is having a special exhibit of Ansel Adams and Georgia O’Keefe. Adams was a true genius (as was O’Keefe of course, but the photography so speaks to me these days!).

  16. It’s like you captured an entire town and era in this one photo, Cathy. The image is so sharp and clear, and full of charm! (you should send it to their chamber of commerce; it would make a great post card!)
