Or this is shot is strictly about art. Here is the mermaid Amphitrite as she adorns the Sunset House Reef on Grand Cayman. You can also see how the life on the reef has added colors to her lovely form.

Nice up close and personal portrait, Cathy! This makes me think about life imitating art, but I suppose that implies that mermaids exist … even though Daryl Hannah was a pretty convincing lady-fish in Splash.

Yes, Daryl Hannah was a very convincing mermaid in Splash. As a matter of fact, I wondered if the sculptor imitated Daryl’s face for his rendition of Amphitrite! What do you think?

This sculpture in only about 35 years old, not 350 years old????

Nope, apparently it was created by a Canadian sculptor – Simon Morris – and placed on the reef in 2000.

Then I say he had Splash on the brain, too.

Thank you, Amy. It was such a fun way to enjoy art! As one comes over the top of the reef and Amphitrite appears!

Is she underwater, Cathy? (You may not know it, but my alter ego is a mermaid. I discovered this when I was eleven.)

Hi Leon! Yes, she is underwater at a depth of about 50 feet. I did not know that your alter ego is a mermaid. I love mermaids too! And I guess Amphitrite is a queen mermaid being the wife of Poseidon and all!

Cathy! I’ve so missed, but then you finally came back while I was away and not reading much of anything… so, I’m terribly late! That said, Mermaids are one of my very favorite things, and I love this image! What a stunning image to find down under!! Gorgeous! And welcome back… xox

Thanks so much, Dawn! And sorry for the delay in getting back to you! It’s ski season and we’re up in the mountains for three days every other week. It’s a fabulous time, but very busy as I keep my full work schedule on top of that.
Yes, I love mermaids too. This beautiful bronze sculpture is such a fun surprise to find in 50 feet of water! Hope you are doing well.
Hugs,
Cathy
