Weekly Photo Challenge – Dance

Saddled Blenny

Saddled Blenny

Whenever I’m scuba diving, I feel that I’m in the midst of a constant dance – the creatures and the water ever moving rhythmically. My biggest challenge was to choose one shot, but I loved the tango-esque posture of this fish. I give you the Saddled Blenny who was gracious enough to light for a few seconds to have his picture taken.

Blennies are tiny little fish who constantly dart around on sandy bottoms or coral heads. This one was about an inch long.

  5. Cathy, are you saying that this fish was so ready for its close-up, that it posed?!? Had you said it was the size of a trout, I would have believed you. You gave that swimming inch great detail!

Well, it kind of posed. They don’t stay still for very long. Thanks, buddy! That detail is due to a great macro lens that I have from my Olympus. I used it a lot on the last dive trip to the Caymans. This shot was taken there.

There’s lots of colorful, tiny stuff on the reefs, Leon. They’re like little treasures one finds if patient and willing to go slow. One thing I love about doing underwater photography is that it slows me down, makes me be very present and observant and I see things that I would otherwise miss.
