Christmas Tree Worms
To me, ambience means light, sound, texture, and I loved the light in this macro shot of Christmas tree worms on the reefs of Belize. You may recognize the structure of these little critters from the scene in Avatar where Jake is walking through the jungle and touching the large plants, which immediately recoil into a tube. When they feel even the slightest pressure change in the water, that’s exactly what these creatures do. Turns out, James Cameron is a scuba diver and that scene was inspired by what he witnessed in real life on the reefs of our beautiful planet!

The classification of “worm” seems highly inappropriate for such elegant and beautiful creatures! Gorgeous photo, Cathy! I’ve missed seeing your photos here.

Thank you Leon! I know, they really don’t evoke a feeling of “worm” do they, but worms they are! They are one of my favorite subject to photography on the reef and interestingly, most divers swim right by them as they’re quite common.

Hi Mary! Yes, I have for the most part stopped blogging. But all is going well. I’m just busy doing other things that feed my soul. Like you, I’m an avid cyclist and I bought a new road bike this summer! And I have revived one of my favorite pastimes – weaving – this year. I decided that with all the things going on in the world, I needed to do some things to calm myself and make a point to enjoy life to its fullest as much a possible. I really enjoyed your post about the bike trail in Wisconsin. Thanks so much for taking the time to stop by and touch base!
